Valentine’s Day Cupcakes with Recipe AND Printables!
Strawberry cup cakes with adorable robot toppers by Hazelwea Designs
With Valentine’s day only a couple weeks away, I was trying to decide what to make for B’s (’09) preschool class. In the past we’ve put together gift bags with goodies or made cupcakes. I decided to do BOTH this year seeing as it is his last year at the school. I wanted to make them super special and also wanted to provide you all with a little Valentine’s Day treat as well!
My friend at Hazelwea Designs graciously designed some custom printables exclusively for My 30 Best Friends!

You can use the cards for gift bags or the cupcake toppers…or both, like me! I used lollypop sticks to hold the toppers, a 1-inch circle punch to cut out the robot images and a 1 ½ inch scallop punch for the red backing paper.
For the cupcakes I made my nationally recognized strawberry cupcake recipe. (And by nationally recognized, I mean my best friend in Pennsylvania loves them.)
STRAWBERRY CUP CAKES
1 box white cake mix
1 3oz strawberry gelatin mix. (I use half a box so they aren’t too sweet)
½ cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
½ cup fresh strawberries, lightly pureed (I use a Magic Bullet)
4 egg whites beaten till fluffy (not just bubbly)
Mix all the ingredients except the strawberries and egg whites. Once well mixed fold in the strawberries and egg whites. The batter will be very watery and light (almost airy). Pour batter into lined cupcake tins, 3/4 full. Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.
For the frosting I used Rachel’s Buttercream recipe.
I found some treat bags at Michael’s in the right colors. And Target happened to have robot treats! Once the bags were filled, I used double sided tape to stick the labels to the bags.
What I love most about them is how understated and adorable they are!!! B (’09) also loves them and can’t wait to make them all over again to actually take to class — a perk of doing this blog, I get to make these cupcakes twice!
