Hi, my name is Tiffany. I am a mom to M (’09), K (’12) and a surprise baby due in February. I am also a student and hairstylist. I have been with my boyfriend/spouse, S, since 2005. We met at work 3 years earlier, he wanted to date and I was just getting out of a relationship and needed time. Three years later some girlfriends and I were talking about the men we should have dated vs. the men we did date and S was all I could think about. A week after that I ran into him and the first thing he did was kiss me and here we are nine years later.
After the birth of M (’09) I decided that I wanted a more stable career than being a hair stylist and went back to school. It took me three years but in the summer of 2013 I received my AS degree and I am currently applying to medical programs to pursue a BS degree. Going to college while raising children is not easy. I try to take every class I can on-line so that I can be home with M and K. While it is difficult, I am so glad that I struck out on this journey because, in another 2-3 years, all the sacrifices we have made as a family for my education will pay off.
Balancing the kids, school, hair clients, and trying to be a loving spouse can get tricky. I have found that I need to let go of the little things and just do what needs to get done. For example, there were no Christmas cards done this year but I got through finals week just fine! On a good day I am able to shower and do my hair; wash, dry, fold and put away a load of laundry and cook dinner; all while playing with the kids and getting some studying time in.
