Tanya

TanyaI’m Tanya, and I am an early 30’s mom to three boys – D (’05), M (’09), and T (’11). I was once told that being a mom to all boys makes you a princess in your own house, and I can attest to that! I wouldn’t change it for the world. Along with having some amazing children, I am very lucky to be married to a very supportive and caring man. I couldn’t ask for a better husband and father to my children.

I am a work at home mom and teach fourth grade from the comfort of my own home for an online charter school. I took this job after teaching in a brick and mortar classroom for 6 years. This is my dream job – I can stay home with my kids, but still have a career that I love. I am very much a homebody, and enjoy crafting, sewing, organizing the house, cooking, and baking. I often joke that I make it a goal to leave the house as little as possible, but the truth is, I think it’s true! The one exception to this is I am a runner, and crave outdoor runs, even in the snow (which we get a lot of here in Michigan). I am a chapter leader for our local chapter of Moms RUN This Town. There’s no better way to get some me time as a working mom than to get outside for a long run with friends or just by myself.

I lost my mom to breast cancer in 2011, and going on without her has been very challenging. I have done a lot of self-discovery and growing during the time since I lost her, and have also overcome depression and anxiety. I’ve had to learn not only how to go on with my life without her, but to incorporate her memory and legacy into our daily lives, so my children will know and love her. This has been a very difficult process, as I’ve had to be a parent and a wife through all of this. It was very hard to come out of the grief I had buried myself in after she passed away. One of the ways I turned grief into something good was forming a nonprofit in her honor to help other cancer patients.

I have learned a lot in my journey so far, and am looking forward to sharing my experiences with all of you. You can also follow my personal blog, All Things TLC.
